Demon's Souls...

DeliriousB's picture

I finally got the game about a week ago and it is DEFINITELY the challenge it was said to be!... It took me 4 tries going down the deep pit to fight Flame Lurker before I finally managed to do it. @_@

First time I wandered in and got owned

Second time I came back with some fire gear and got owned

Third time I tried magic and ranged attacks and got about half way, then got owned.

Fourth time I upgraded the hell out of my equipment and used flame resistant gear and finally took him down!...

Although I hear he's nothing compared the Dragon God right after him.... @_@

Just bought it yesterday,

Just bought it yesterday, haven't played it much yet, but yeah it is pretty difficult haha.

It gets...

It gets.... well I guess it doesn't really get any easier... but you'll... no I guess you won't die less often but.... Trial and error?... There's a good wiki site for help right here:

I would recommend bookmarking it. =/

Man.... the Flame Lurker

Man.... the Flame Lurker nearly made me kick small animals. I tried well over four times. I actually wore out one of my PS3 controllers around the same time. I always found running hard in Demon's Souls then one day the battery ran out so I plugged a ps2 controller in with an adaptor and suddenly everything was easier. So I bought a new ps3 controller the next day and felt truly badass for beating half the game with a worn out left thumbstick :P BTW, the best thing you will ever do in Demon's Souls is get the Tower Knight shield spell. Especially when you get farther in Boletaria and take the Penetrator on. It will also come in incredibly useful in the far right world, especially against the dual katana wielders. Although the Dragon God isn't hard, or at least that's not quite the right word. it's just a question of running across exposed spaces and being lucky enough to not get hit. It's darn hard not to get hit but chance can eventually let you beat him whereas the other bosses definitely require skills.

.....Although by now I haven't played Demon's Souls for a bit since I got distracted by other games. And now my demon slaying skills are all rusty so every time I try again it's just depressing and I quit.

It's the Storm Temple right?

That stage with the Skeletons... it's the Storm Temple I think. I used to think it was hard, but now I farm there getting about 10000+ souls each time. :D It goes without saying that a bow and arrow makes things a lot easier. @_@

Thanks for the tip about the shield spell though. My magic is a little low since I'm mostly a physical build with magically enchanted weapons... but I'll work my magic up enough to use it. =/ I'm using a Dragon Long Sword+4 and it does WONDERS on just about everything!... I'm killing the red eyed knight in 1-1 with a single hit! XD

I'm thinking about killing Old King Doran sometime soon... I hear he drops some of the best armor and I want it. =P I accidentally let Ostrava die when I wasn't looking... >_< But I picked up his Mausoleum key so it's all good. ^_^

Hey, how far are you right

Hey, how far are you right now? Beat the Dragon God yet? ;)

DeliriousB's picture

Yes actually...

Yes I did beat the Dragon God, only the first part was hard.... I died about 16 times... XD I figured it out though. ^_^

Honestly I'm scared to venture into the other worlds though since I don't know what I'll be facing.... @_@ The Tower of Latria especially freak me out... all the prison cells and those octopus heads... they kill you so freaking fast! >_<

And I heard bad things about the Swamp place... @_@

Oh man, the tower is INTENSE.

Oh man, the tower is INTENSE. You really need to take the octopus things out from behind. You probably realized this but they walk in predetermined paths until they see you so it's basically wait-n-charge. What you may not have noticed is that when you get down a few levels and take on this giant ball-shaped thing that throws spears of blue light at you, don't follow the inevitable messages telling you to use distance attacks. It's standing right next to a series of stone pillars that you can easily run to and hide behind, then duck out and slash between his shots. I pity the poor fools who think that leaving messages about archery is helpful. I've seen far too many phantoms die that way.

I didn't get that far in the swamp so I have little advice for that.

DeliriousB's picture

Ah... the... Legion right?

Lol I think that ball of humans or whatever is called a Legion... I actually took the advice and took it out with arrows... didn't take very long... XD Honestly I feel like you NEED to invest in a good bow if you want to survive in this game... XD

Melee gets you killed so much faster... @_@ Well anyways I take out enemies from afar when convenient. Like the Mind Flayers (octopus heads). I REALLY don't want to go up and melee them if at all possible... XD Taking them out from afar is just so much easier than running up and trying to kill them before they can spot you... which often ends in my death when I try it. @_@

But certain enemies are definitely better suited to be melee'd for sure. Like Bear Bugs or.... maybe it's just bear bugs.... XD A good bow and arrow will kill 90% of the monsters in this game with ease. =/ But when it comes to bosses I like going out in style with a sword and a shield... XD Bosses don't give you time to aim a bow and arrow in this game anyway... @_@

Anti-Magic Field

A tip for anyone struggling with the Tower of Latria: the Anti-Magic Field miracle that you can get from the last boss of the Storm Shrine works wonders on the Mind Flayers, Legions and the first boss. The Mind Flayers in particular are completely helpless without their spells, allowing you to hack them up at your leisure. Unfortunately, I didn't discover that until my second playthrough.
